Privacy Policy

The short version: we run no servers, we collect no data, and we couldn't read yours if we wanted to. The long version is below, and it stays short for the same reason.

What Rote stores, and where

Everything you put into Rote — notes, tasks, habits, reminders, day recaps — is stored on your device. If you enable sync, it is also stored in the private database of your own iCloud account via Apple CloudKit. That database is tied to your Apple ID; Apple's infrastructure hosts it, and only your devices can read it. We have no servers, no database of our own, and no technical means of accessing your content.

Accounts

Rote has no account system. There is nothing to register, no email to hand over, no password to store. Sync identifies you through the iCloud account already signed in on your device.

Analytics and tracking

The apps contain no analytics, no crash-reporting SDKs, no advertising identifiers, and no third-party code that phones home. This website is static, sets no cookies, and uses no trackers.

Notifications

Reminders and focus-timer alerts are scheduled locally on your device. They never route through us — again, there is no "us" server-side to route through.

Purchases

Payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive aggregate sales reports from Apple; these contain no personal information.

What we receive if you email us

If you write to hello@rote.day, we receive your email address and whatever you send. We use it to reply, and for nothing else.

Data deletion

Deleting the apps removes the data on that device. To remove synced data from iCloud, go to Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage on iOS, find Rote, and delete its data. Because we hold nothing, there is nothing further to request from us.

Children

Rote is not directed at children under 13 and, since it collects nothing, processes no personal information about anyone — children included.

Changes

If Rote ever changes in a way that affects any of the above — for example, if a future version adds optional crash reporting — this page will change first, with the date above updated.
